Summit ESC, Summit County Community Partnership (SCCP), Pastoral Counseling Services, and Summit County Public Health are collaborating together this school year on an opiate prevention campaign/grant focusing on educating students about safe medicine usage, storage and disposal.
Participants will actively engage in instructional strategies designed to implement the Generation Rx interactive, drug misuse prevention education into student experiences. SCCP will share The Deterra Project and We Are the Future of Summit County Project that they are also supporting in the community. With generous support from Cardinal Health Foundation, each participant will receive a “toolkit” that contains Start Talking materials, Generation Rx messaging, brochures containing DUMP box locations, “3 Steps for Prescription Safety” magnet, at-home drug deactivation pouches, and a lockbox, plus hands-on inquiries for classrooms.
In particular, we are targeting student athletes as one population at-risk for becoming addicted to prescription opiates. We are envisioning that athletic directors with this training will be able to use these resources to present Generation Rx messaging to parents attending the required OHSAA parent meetings each spring and fall.
For Whom: Any Educator Responsible for Addressing Opiate Law/HB367 (Including: Administrators, Guidance Counselors, HPE Teachers, Athletic Directors/Coaches, etc.)
