Participants will:
· Analyze the content literacy standards for social studies and determine how they fit into their current instructional practices.
· Briefly go over Depth of Knowledge and examine how teachers can scaffold to increase rigor in instructions and assessments.
· Discuss differentiated text offerings so students that can read at a much higher level are given some materials to challenge them.
· Go over primary source teaching strategies and determine places to find resources.
· Review the ELA informational text standards that can be incorporated into social studies.
· Identify and practice comprehension strategies that can be used when teaching with content area texts.
· Review vocabulary strategies to incorporate into social studies.
