Summit ESC has extended the Curriculum Department with the addition of Jake Miller and Alyssa Bird to collaborate with our districts.

Jake Miller - Ohio Personalized Learning Specialist

As Summit ESC’s Personalized Learning Specialist, Jake has been helping to develop and implement personalized learning curricula through the Personalized Learning Network in partnership with ESCs, ODE, and districts across Ohio. He recognizes the tough job that teachers have and wants to develop tools and workshops that will help them in encouraging our students to reach their goals and their full potential after they graduate.

Jake’s experience as a teacher at Barberton City schools, Stow-Munroe Falls City Schools, and Orange City Schools has given him a real perspective on what gaps need to be filled to make a classroom successful. He has proven to be a thought leader in this area, having delivered various Professional Development courses, as well as being a speaker at various keynotes and workshops.

On a personal note, one of Jake’s proudest childhood memories is that he won a trip to attend Michael Jordan’s Basketball Camp.

Alyssa Bird -  Literacy and ELA Curriculum Consultant

As Summit ESC’s Literacy and English Learning Arts (ELA) Curriculum Consultant, Alyssa is a resource, collaborator, and coach to districts by providing literacy assessments, evaluations, and curriculum design, development, and implementation. Summit ESC has been a positive and collaborative workplace where Alyssa has found new ways to grow professionally. From facilitating teacher trainings to helping districts with curriculum adoptions, Alyssa states, “Working for Summit ESC has solidified that this is what I am meant to be doing.”

Before joining Summit ESC’s team, Alyssa was a part of the Ravenna City School District team as a reading specialist and 3rd grade teacher. She provided literacy coaching to colleagues with the hopes of improving student achievement by designing and implementing literacy strategies.

While Alyssa travels to each district for the next professional development course that she is leading, you can often find her exercising her secret talent and love of singing.

Jake and Alyssa have been making their way across Ohio to all of our districts and are looking forward to meeting with you soon!
