Summit ESC Leads the Charge for Female Leadership in Education at OSBA Annual Convention

At the Ohio School Boards Association annual convention, Summit Educational Service Center (ESC) took center stage with its impactful presentation, "Preparing and Promoting Women in Leadership." Recently held in Columbus, the convention attracted 8,000-10,000 school board members and district leaders and featured Summit ESC's session as a highlight among the diverse educational offerings.

The session, expertly led by Christina Dinklocker of Summit ESC's Leadership Services and Nancy Santilli, Assistant Superintendent at ESC of the Western Reserve, filled the room to capacity with 130 attendees, including both women and men. The session's popularity underscored the burgeoning interest in addressing gender leadership disparities in education. Presenting research-based statistics and strategies, the session focused on the advancement of women into leadership roles across schools and districts.

Centered on elevating women into pivotal leadership roles, the session navigated through critical topics such as dismantling the perceived 'glass ceiling', initiating ongoing women’s networks for training, and the importance of mock interviews, shadowing, mentoring, and observation opportunities. The discussion was enriched with compelling research-based statistics, revealing that only 17% of Ohio Superintendents are female. This figure contrasts with the rising preparation rates of women for the superintendence - 26% in 2020/2021, 29% in 2021/2022, but a decrease to 17% in 2022/2023, highlighting an urgent need for focused action.

"Our goal was to empower and provide actionable strategies to support the advancement of women in leadership roles within our schools." shared Christina Dinklocker.

Summit ESC's leading role at the convention highlights its commitment to inclusive leadership and professional development in education. The session showcased its dedication to driving change and fostering diverse leadership in Ohio's educational communities.
