Prevention Services

According to the Ohio Center of Excellence for Behavioral Health Prevention and Promotion, young people are impacted by a myriad of challenges such as poor mental health, substance use, violence, poverty, and disease. Evidence-based prevention strategies are a line of defense in reducing the overall impact of these challenges. The Summit ESC Wellness Initiatives Department is committed to collaborating with districts to implement evidence-based prevention strategies to reduce the prevalence of these challenges among students.

House Bill 123 Suicide Prevention Curriculum Requirements

Effective for the 2023-2024 school year, Ohio schools are required to provide one hour of evidence-based suicide prevention curriculum (from a program on the ODE-approved list) for all students in grades 6-12. If you have not yet planned for compliance with this requirement, reach out to our team for a consultation.

Universal Screening

How often do you collect information on the well-being of your students? Universal Screening tools allow for frequent monitoring of a non-invasive nature to ensure that all students are receiving the appropriate Tier of support and that your Tier 1 supports are working effectively. There are many options for Universal Screening, our team can assist in the selection process as well as the implementation of Universal Screening tools.

Tier 1 Substance Use Interventions

Many schools are seeing an increase in vaping, nicotine, and marijuana use, but are unsure how to respond and are looking to Tier 2 and 3 interventions for those students who are actively using. Comprehensive and evidence-based Tier 1 prevention strategies for substance use is effective in delaying the onset of these behaviors. Our team can help conduct audits and needs assessments and pair you with community resources to implement interventions to improve the culture and climate in this area.

QPR
