Celebrating Outstanding Educators at 2023 Education Celebration
Summit Educational Service Center proudly unveils the distinguished winners from the 2023 Education Celebration, an esteemed annual event that spotlights extraordinary educators across Northeast Ohio dedicated to transforming students’ lives. "It's a privilege to honor these educators, the true champions of our future, at our 2023 Education Celebration. Their dedication mirrors the commitment we value at Summit ESC, and we are grateful for their impact," shares Summit ESC Superintendent Joesph Iacano.
This year, Summit ESC received an overwhelming response with 33 outstanding nominees from 13 diverse districts. It's a testament to the remarkable talent and dedication of educators across Northeast Ohio.
Rookie of the Year: Casey Gray – Copley Fairlawn School District
Casey Gray's transition from a passionate parent to a special education teacher in Copley-Fairlawn City Schools demonstrates his commitment to the field. Driven by the transformative experience of his own child under intervention specialists, Casey stands out for his innovative teaching methods, notably using pizza imagery to elucidate the concept of fractions. Beyond the classroom, Casey, a proud veteran, holds various roles: coach, Safety Committee member, Robotics Club leader, and more, exemplifying his multifaceted dedication to the school community.
Teacher of the Year: Toby Liechty-Clifford – Akron Public Schools
With over three decades in education, Toby Liechty-Clifford has left an indelible mark on many. His exceptional tenure at the I Promise School, in collaboration with the LeBron James Family Foundation, underscores his drive to reform urban education. Serving on various committees, designing curriculum, and winning numerous accolades, Toby passionately believes in the boundless potential of every student. His credo, inspired by Jerry Whittle, "To teach is to touch a life forever," resonates with his daily commitment.
Lifetime Achievement Award: Daryl Troy – Twinsburg School District Daryl Troy, a retired kindergarten teacher from Twinsburg City Schools, has always known her purpose was in education. Over the years, she's profoundly influenced the academic journey of numerous students, preparing them for the future with fervor and care. Her vast involvement, from mentoring to curriculum evaluation, and her numerous accolades, including grants spanning subjects from science to technology, mirror her undying passion. Recognizing and understanding every facet of a child's persona, Daryl stands as an epitome of leadership and dedication in education.
