House Bill 123 Threat Assessment Requirements
As of March 24, 2023, all Ohio Schools serving grades 6-12 were required to identify a threat assessment team made up of interdisciplinary staff members. Each member of this team is required to undergo a state-approved threat assessment training upon appointment to the team and once every three years thereafter. Threat Assessment is a proactive measure to identify students who are at risk for carrying out dangerous acts and to put supports in place for those students before violence occurs.
The Summit ESC Wellness Initiatives Department provides the Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines (CSTAG) training, which is on the list of state-approved trainings, as well as coaching and consultation on the implementation of threat assessment teams.
